“If only you had known the things that make for peace”

Brian Zahnd writes a mesmerizing post about “Huckleberry Finn,” the Second Great Awakening, and the American Civil War. He wonders how the two events could have followed so closely, one right after the other. He ponders the irony that Huck had to renounce the religion of his youth in order to find God, and wonders what the implications are for us today.
